Visiting the website
The website runs on a server rented from Hostinger International Ltd. in Frankfurt, Germany. When you open a page, the server logs the date and time, the page requested, the response status and a shortened IP address (the last part removed). These logs help keep the server secure and fix errors, and are deleted after 14 days. Legal basis: legitimate interest in running a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Fonts and scripts are served from Blockout itself. Your browser doesn’t contact Google or other content networks.
Your account and the editor
To use the editor you create an account. Blockout stores your email address, your password (only as a secure hash) and a name derived from your email. When you work in the editor, it stores your saved scenes, models you import, the current image of each camera, and the drawing apps you link.
This data is stored with Neon (Neon, Inc., a Databricks company), which provides Blockout’s database, sign-in and file storage, on servers of Amazon Web Services in Ohio, USA. Data sent to the USA is protected by the EU standard contractual clauses (Commission Decision 2021/914) in the data processing agreement with Databricks, Inc. Legal basis: providing the service you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Your data is kept until you delete your account. You can do that at any time in the editor: open the menu at the top right and choose Delete account. This removes the account, your scenes, imported models, camera images, linked apps, forum posts and usage records.
Cookies and stored tokens
Blockout sets one cookie: a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in. It is required for the account to work, so no consent is needed (§ 165 (3) TKG 2021). Plugins in Photoshop, Krita, GIMP and Photopea store a sign-in token in the app, which you can remove by signing out in the plugin.
Usage statistics
To see whether Blockout is used and which plugins matter, it counts:
- Downloads of each plugin. To count different people without storing IP addresses, the server combines the IP address with a random value that is replaced every day, scrambles the result and keeps only that. The daily value is deleted after its day, so the result can’t be traced back to an IP address.
- Daily use: for each account and day, whether the editor or a plugin was used, and which one.
This data is deleted after 13 months. Legal basis: legitimate interest in improving Blockout (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time by writing to the email above.
Forum
Forum posts are public and shown with the forum name you choose, never with your email. You can delete your own posts at any time. Legal basis: providing the forum (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Other services
- Donations: the Donate buttons link to Ko-fi. Nothing is sent to Ko-fi unless you click; on Ko-fi, Ko-fi’s privacy policy applies.
- Model library: Blockout’s server fetches library models from their sources (three.js, Poly Pizza, Poly Haven). Your browser doesn’t contact them.
- Photopea plugin: it runs inside photopea.com, where Photopea’s privacy policy applies.
Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Write to hello@severinschleps.com. You can also complain to the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at).
